How the sizes correlate

Do you also have a mix of flour, grains, pasta, and rice lying around in half-open bags at the back of the cupboard? You are not the only one. The clutter occurs because the bags do not have a fixed place and cannot be stacked. Plastic storage containers solve exactly this: they have a fixed shape, a secure lid, and can be placed next to and on top of each other, turning the cupboard into a system instead of a pile.

The containers here are available in a range of sizes, so you can match the container to what you are storing. The smallest ones, 0.35 L and 0.8 L, are suitable for what you use in small amounts at a time: baking powder, seeds, nuts, or leftover shredded coconut. The medium sizes of 1.6 L, 1.65 L, and 2.25 L are great for pasta, rice, grains, and muesli. And the large 3.5 L one holds an entire bag of flour or sugar, so you can pour it directly from the shopping bag into the container. As soon as the dry goods are in matching containers, you get both an overview and a calmer, more uniform look in the cupboard.

Gastromax in plastic or containers with wooden lids

The collection offers two looks, and the choice is mostly about where the containers will be placed. The Gastromax containers are transparent all the way around with a colored clip lid, so you can see the contents and the quantity immediately. They are practical behind the cupboard door, where you want to be able to see quickly if there is any pasta left.

If you want a softer, more natural look, there are two storage containers with wooden lids in 0.84 L and 4.4 L. The wood provides the warm, calming tone that is the essence of feng shui, and they are well-suited to stand out on the kitchen counter or on an open shelf. If you cannot decide, you can mix the two: the transparent ones inside the cupboard and the ones with wooden lids out where they can be seen.

How to keep food fresh with airtight lids

One of the most important questions when buying plastic containers is whether the lid seals tightly. A lid that clips shut keeps moisture and air out better than a loose bag or a loose lid, and that is precisely what extends the shelf life of dry goods and protects against flour beetles and moisture getting in. Cookies and crispbread stay crisp longer, and the flour does not clump.

A practical tip: feel free to write the date on when you fill a container so you always know how old the dry goods are. If you want a uniform look on top of that, you can apply labels for storage containers to the front, so you can see at a glance whether it is rice or couscous without having to lift each individual container.

Plastic or glass for your dry goods

Some prefer glass, others plastic, and both have their strengths. The plastic containers are lightweight, will not break if dropped, and are easy to move around and lift down from a high shelf. This makes them ideal for daily use and for homes with children who need to be able to reach and handle them themselves.

If you would rather have glass because it does not absorb odors and looks nice on display, you can take a look at our storage jars. Many people end up using both: plastic for what is moved often and needs to be light, and glass for what stands out and needs to be seen. The most important thing is not the material itself, but that the dry goods have fixed places instead of lying around in loose bags.

Get started with one cupboard at a time

You don't need to turn the entire kitchen upside down all at once. Start with the cupboard where the dry goods are the most cluttered, often the one with flour, rice, and pasta. Take everything out, wipe the shelf clean, and throw away bags that are half-empty or too old. Then pour the dry goods into containers that fit the quantity, and place the containers you use the most in the front.

Many are surprised by how little it takes before a cupboard feels completely different. If you want to continue afterward, you can look at the rest of our storage containers for dry goods or find more ideas in our guide on storage for dry goods. We promise it is worth it once the system is created, and if you have questions along the way, we are ready to help.
