Start with one room at a time
Do you also have boxes in the basement that neither you nor anyone else really knows what's inside? You're not the only one. Clutter tends to accumulate where we don't look every day, and suddenly we're left with an attic or garage where nothing has a fixed place. The good news is that you don't need to tackle the whole house at once. Start with one room or even just one shelf, and choose boxes that suit exactly what you want to tidy up. Fixed places are the whole secret: when every thing knows where it belongs, you make life very difficult for clutter. A storage box is really just a fixed place with edges, and that's why it works.
Choose according to where the box will stand
The most important choice is not about color, but about location. If the box is going to stand out on a shelf in the living room or bedroom where you see it every day, it pays to choose something that is also nice to look at. Here our wooden boxes in acacia and natural wood are ideal, because they create calm with a natural material and fit into most homes. If the box, on the other hand, is going to be hidden away in the attic, basement, or garage, where moisture and dust are a factor, plastic wins on functionality. Our white white storage box withstands a cold and damp basement better than both cardboard and fabric, which over time absorb moisture and can mold. So think first: where will it stand, and what should it protect against. Then the rest of the choices almost give themselves.
Can the storage boxes be stacked?
Yes, and that's often where the big space gain lies. When you can stack boxes on top of each other, you utilize the height in the cabinet, on the shelf, or in the basement instead of just the floor area. Our plastic boxes are designed to stand stably on top of each other, and the open acacia and natural wood boxes with an open front, which you find in open front boxes, can be put together into a small shelf, where you can still pull the contents out from the front without lifting it all off. A good tip: put the heaviest and least used things at the bottom, and what you often need on top. Then you avoid moving a whole stack every time.
Boxes with or without lids
A lid makes a real difference in places where dust and moisture have free rein. In the attic, basement, and garage, a tightly fitting lid keeps the contents clean and protected, and it is also the lid that makes it possible to stack the boxes safely. If you, on the other hand, are going to use the box in a drawer, in the wardrobe, or out on a shelf where you often need to get into it, an open box is much more practical, because you can just pull the contents out right away. We have solutions for both: see them together in Storage boxes with lids, if you want the contents closed and protected.
Wooden boxes for the home you want to show off
When the box stands out in the living room, in the office, or in the entryway, it's not only the contents that need to be tidy, it's also the expression. Here natural materials like wood and bamboo are both clutter-reducing and in line with the idea of harmonious surroundings. Our wooden boxes are available in acacia with a warm, dark tone and in lighter natural wood, and they come in several shapes: square, wide, elongated tall, and with an open front. You can choose one type and let them repeat for a uniform and aesthetic expression, or combine shapes according to what each shelf should hold. If you want to build upwards, they are also available as small shelves with an open front, so you get both storage and a furniture-like solution in one. Explore the entire selection in wooden boxes.
Boxes for the refrigerator and the small food items
Storage does not stop at cabinets and shelves. In the refrigerator, boxes create fixed zones, so cold cuts, vegetables, and snacks do not blend together, and you can quickly pull out a whole box instead of searching at the back. Our refrigerator boxes are available in several sizes from slim and xs to medium, so they fit the shelves and exactly what you want to collect. If you want to store leftovers or meal prep, glass boxes with bamboo lids are a good choice, because glass does not absorb odor and color like plastic, and you can see the contents right away. You find them under glass food storage box.
Cleaning and durability
A storage box lasts longer if it suits the environment it stands in. Plastic can be wiped with a damp cloth and withstands both moisture and temperature fluctuations, which makes it the safe choice in the basement and garage. Wood lasts best in dry rooms inside the home and should not stand in moisture for a long time. Glass can go in the dishwasher and retains its appearance year after year. If you want to know more about how to keep the boxes clean, we have gathered tips in the guide how do I clean storage boxes. And if you are ready to get started, but don't know where to start, we promise that it is all worth it once the system is created. If you have questions along the way, we are always ready to help.
